Art Blog Post No. 12 – Jan 19th, 2024

This week:

1. The SWARM’23 show wrapped up, and I picked up my piece on Wed (Jan 17th) from Hamilton Artist Inc., on James Street North in Hamilton. Fortunately, I was not the last person to pick up their work; at least a half dozen other pieces were still in the gallery.

2. I continue my holiday readings and research on contemporary master artists. At the moment, I am working through the books on Philip Guston, Peter Doig, and Dana Schutz.

3. I am also researching oil techniques since I plan to switch from acrylics to oils. I am hoping to move away from the illustrative appearance of my current body of work.

4. The studio needs to be cleared up to make room for my future oil paintings. Oil painting creates special demands on your space. Because oil dries more slowly than acrylics, taking weeks instead of hours, you need room to work on multiple pieces simultaneously. Given the amount of stuff in my studio, I am uncertain how I will create more room.

As a result, while I have been very busy, I don’t have much to show you at the moment. Cheers
