On the Road and painting McClure House located half-way between Hamilton and Toronto. The owner of this estate had a very rewarding stagecoach-hotel operation throughout the 19th century. People travelling between Hamilton and Toronto would stop at a location near to his estate for a overnight stay at his hotel.
